Both Dr’s. Mark Foster and Michael Ang are involved in a range of activities outside Castlegate Family Dental Care.
Mark has competed in the Rottnest Channel swim as part of a duo team on four occasions and is a member of the Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club. He has been a volunteer dentist at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, the World Swimming Championships, the Rugby World Cup and has lectured extensively both in Australia and overseas, including at the National Australian Dental Association’s Congress on the topics of Dental Trauma and Sports Dentistry.
In 2011 he and his dental nurse Olivia competed in the Busselton Iron Man event. Mark is also a keen cyclist and is happy to talk about any topic that involves carbon fibre!
He is a Consultant Dentist at Princess Margaret Hospital’s dental department where he has been since 1990. He is a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Western Australia School of Dentistry were he is involved in teaching of the third and forth year dental students.
Mark is also an examiner for the Australian Dental Council in paediatric dentistry. This body is responsible for the registration of overseas trained dentists who wish to practice in Australia.
Michael enjoyed the outdoors as a student in the South Island of New Zealand and subsequently combined his passions for travelling. In the last few years he has trekked the Inca trail of Peru, Sapa hills of Vietnam, Northern valleys of Chiang Mai and hopes to climb Mt Kinabalu next year.
He enjoys keeping fit by running and completed the Great Ocean Road half marathon in 2011.
Like most kiwis, he grew up close to the ocean. He first started surfing on the Sunshine coast after being ‘taught’ by one of his dental nurses father. Unfortunately he is still learning but finds it a great form of ‘meditation’.
He has his father to thank for his passion to snorkel and scuba dive (open water certified), boating, fishing and kayaking. Rugby, well its the main religion in New Zealand and he is a proud All Blacks supporter. More recently he has enjoyed photography associated with travel and being an uncle of 4 boys.
